What's New @ the pond StarCraft Night This Wednesday!
Posted by: Celios on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 - 05:31 AM
The pond will be hosting a StarCraft night this wednesday! Everyone is welcome to play, just bring your CD's and we'll get some match-ups going. We ask that everyone get on irc and head to #pond and meet up there as soon as you get home.

We'll try to provide a TeamSpeak 2 server for us to use (likely wow! or pond's) during the games. We'll try to get some team games going as well to make it interesting.

Good luck everyone and have fun!

Tribes: Vengeance Excellent Singleplayer & Multiplayer Videos
Posted by: Celios on Friday, May 21, 2004 - 05:27 AM
Tribalwar has released two extended videos of both the T:V singleplayer and multiplayer. For the singleplayer video, we are shown Ben Lee (lead artist) playing through a fairly sizeable chunk of one mission. The audio quality is, unfortunately, non-existent though it is still a good watch. The multiplayer video is of higher quality and I personally found this one quite fascinating. It shows off the grappler at length (this video impressed me in this regard), along with quite a bit of one of the multiplayer maps. Though there are some gameplay issues that aren't hard to spot, it looks, overall, quite promising.

Check out the singleplayer video here (110 MB) and the multiplayer video here (202 MB.) Please note that you will have to have the DivX codec installed in order for you to be able to watch it.

Tribes: Vengeance T:V Deployables Revealed
Posted by: Celios on Friday, May 21, 2004 - 04:48 AM
All the T:V Deployables have now been revealed and described in-depth. Some of the devs sat down with Euro-TribesPlayers and gave them a long Q & A session, which they have posted on their site.

The deployables include a fair amount of new ones and some old classics. Among the mix is an inventory station, turrets (only one kind this time around,) a repair station, mines and catapults (jump pads.) For better or for worse, deployables all spawn at the base and are no longer available from any sort of inventory station. This will doubtless complicate farming, though this is somewhat counteracted by the fact that any armor can carry a deployable. Feel free to check out the whole thing for all the details.

Tribes: Vengeance E3 Over & Done With
Posted by: Celios on Monday, May 17, 2004 - 09:37 PM
With E3 come and gone, we are left with some player reactions to T:V. There seems to be a growing trend in the "common" Quake or UT player to have nothing but praise for the game while Tribes fans are reeling from the many gameplay flaws. While many people are still optimistic, there seems to be universal agreement (even from the dev team) that the physics need a major overhaul.

You can read the official Tribal War review by Colossus if you want a cautious outlook on the game or you can read Nordramor or Musashi's reviews for a more aggressive outlook on what they saw. Enjoy!
