Guild Wars Creature Feature... Leecher?
Posted by: Celios on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 - 10:57 PM
It occurs to me that I haven't covered a few tidbits relating to the recent Sorrow's Furnace update. Since there's been a lack of any particularly compelling news lately, I thought I might as well drop some links in case anyone is still interested (though I can't imagine why anyone would want to read about an update they can play, but whatever.)

First off there's the relatively recent IGN Creature Feature. If you can navigate the trecherous corridors of ads leading to your destination, you will find non other than a collection of some of the backstories to the enemies you are likely to encounter in Sorrow's Furnace. Who'd a thought it with a name like "Creature Feature"? There is, of course, also some concept art in there, so it's not a total loss.

Second on the list is another IGN article, this time covering the music of Sorrow's Furnace. For those of you who have an interest in the field, it might be worth taking a few minutes to read over the interview with Jeremy Soule, Guild Wars' composer.

Finally, we have the Direct Song mini PAK. Tired of the same old tunes in the background? This download is this answer. Though you'll have to register to access the content, it wouldn't hurt to get some musical variety in there. Then again, it would probably start to hurt when the spam started coming in.

General Gaming Savage 2: A Tortured Soul
Posted by: Celios on Thursday, September 01, 2005 - 05:03 AM
Some of you may remember a small gaming company called S2 Games from a few years back. They exploded onto the competetive gamer scene with a unique vision: a revolutionary half real time strategy, half first person shooter which focused on delivering a quality competitive environment above all else. Savage launched to great expectations - many of which were met. The game was entertaining, aesthetically pleasing, original and definitely worthy of the attention it initially got. But things went wrong: the company apparently ran into some financial problems and the game suffered as a result. Most importantly, it didn't sell. Some blamed the word of mouth advertising approach S2 used, some the overly deep and involving demo and others the so-so netcode that was never really brought up to spec.

Where is this little story going you may ask? Well, it seems that Savage 2 is now under development. Needless to say, this is a bit of a shock considering what happened with the first title. Regardless, those of you who have given the original game a shot will probably agree with me here: let's hope they learned their lesson the first time around.

Guild Wars Sorrow's Furnace Date Announced

We've finally been given a date for the release of the upcoming Guild Wars patch that will feature the all-new Sorrow's Furnace area. In a recent press conference it was stated that it would be playable by September 7, exactly a week away.

"Sorrow's Furnace offers two large, explorable regions: Grenth's Footprint and Sorrow's Furnace. These regions will provide exciting new high-level content to Guild Wars players, and will offer new quests, new monsters, new items, and more. For characters who have completed their ascension in Guild Wars, these areas will provide new opportunities for exploration and reward."
